Exploring Taipei in one day is not possible, but you can certainly use this guide to fill the day with tasty foods and fun activities. Use one of the cleanest subways in the world to navigate around this city.
Fuel your body by eating lunch at this fantastic soup dumpling restaurant near Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Take either the Red or the Orange Line on the metro and get off at Dongmen station (R07, O06). Click HERE if you need the metro map. Walk towards Exit 3 as you exit the subway. Follow the map below and walk (7 minutes) to the restaurant.
Once you are there, start ordering some delicious soup dumplings. See the menu HERE. I highly recommend the following dishes: Steamed Dumplings
Steamed Pastry with Crab Spawns
Shanghai Steamed Pastry with Pork Vegetable and Dishes
Deep Fried Bean Curd with Pepper Salt
Sichuan Red Oil Wonton
Beef with Oyster Sauce Pastries
Roll Up Beef Pastry
Fried Dumplings with Pork, Shrimp and Tender Scallion Soup and Appetizer

Hours of Operation: Monday-Sunday 11:00am-9:30pm
Address: No. 1, Lane 25, Section 2, Hángzhōu South Rd, Daan District
This is one of the best-known landmarks in Taiwan. The statue of Chiang Kai-shek, a former president of the Republic of China, is displayed in the main chamber of the Memorial Hall. Changing of the guards ceremony is also held at this chamber from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on the hour.
From here, walk (5 minutes) to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall subway station. See the map below. Take the Red Line towards Tamsui.
Upon arriving at Tamsui station (R28), take Exit 2. I highly suggest you use the restroom at this metro station building. Tamsui Old Street is divided into the Riverfront side and the inner old street side.
There are shops and arcade games along both sides of the streets. Do your souvenir shopping here with the various shops and boutique stores.
Remember to try some yummy snacks along the way. You have to try this tall ice cream and the powdered peanut ice cream spring roll while you are there. Both are perfect for a humid, summer day in Taipei.
Finish up the day by eating in a riverfront restaurant while enjoying the beautiful sunset.
This may not seem like a day worth of activities, but it is! You will be exhausted by the end of the day, so don't plan anything else before or after. Rest up, so you can take another to see other parts of Taiwan.
