Your name is part of your identity, so make sure you go through the thoughtful process below and carefully select your Chinese name.
Simple Steps to a Meaningful Chinese Name
Step 1: Analyze Your English Name
Your parents had several discussions to select the name you have today. We definitely do not want your Chinese name to have a totally different meaning. Understand why you were given this name and where it came from are two great ways to start thinking about your Chinese name.
Step 2: Write Down Adjectives that Best Describe You
Based on your personality, behaviors, and characteristics, write down some 3 adjectives that best describe you.
Step 3: Look Up Your Last Name
Use this Wikipedia page HERE to find a Chinese last name that starts with the same first letter of your last name. On top of that page, there is a list of the English alphabet, click on one. Then, find the last name that has a similar spelling to yours.
*If your last name starts with a "C," click on K instead.
Step 4: Gather Notes
Gather your notes from Step 1 & 2, then use this English-Chinese dictionary HERE to translate some of your words. Write down several 1-2 Chinese characters that you like the most.
Step 5: Rearrange the Characters
From Step 3, place this Chinese character first, then followed by Step 4's Chinese character(s).
For example, if the character you choose from Step 3 is 成 (chéng) and from Step 4 is 龙 (lóng), then your Chinese name would be 成龙.
